Dani Carvajal to Undergo Surgery After Cruciate Ligament Injury, Real Madrid Posts Update

Real Madrid extended their unbeaten run in La Liga to 41 games (30 wins and 11 draws) with a 2-0 win over Villareal on Saturday night but the win came at a cost though, as their right-back Dani Carvajal sustained an injury in the final minute of the game while Vinicius Jr. was forced off with an apparent shoulder issue.

Carvajal left screaming in pain, after seemingly overextending his knee in a collision with Yeremy Pino and was carried off the pitch in tears.

The defender took to social media to post an update of hi injurt

“Serious cruciate ligament injury confirmed, I’ll have to undergo surgery and be off the field for a few months,” Carvajal said on Instagram as he posted his picture in an ambulance.

“Looking forward to starting the recovery process and coming back like an animal. Thank you all for your messages, I feel very loved,” he added.

“He has been diagnosed with a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament, a rupture of the external collateral ligament and a rupture of the popliteal tendon in his right leg,” Real Madrid later said in a statement.

The Spaniard’s wife Daphne Canizares has posted a message of support for the veteran.

“It still feels like a bad dream. To see how you were so sad and going through so much pain… and you tried to make me smile. I love and admire you immensely. Your path back to where you are the happiest starts today. Stronger. Because you always give your all. You still have a lot to win, my life. Thank you for so many messages. And to our Real Madrid family, we felt so loved yesterday, I have no words,” read the message by Daphne on her Instagram story.

Club manager Carlo Ancelotti addressed the meida after the game at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium and reflected on club’s injury scare.

“It looks like quite a serious knee injury, but we’ll have to evaluate it in the next few hours. The dressing room is sad and worried because something has happened that happens many times in the season and unfortunately it has happened to a very important player for us,” Ancelotti had said.

“He’s an essential player for us because of his experience. We’re going to wait, I’ve spoken to him and he’s sad and disappointed. We can’t do much about it now. We have to wait for the medical assessment and then think about getting him back. I spoke to the doctor and he told me it was a knee injury. He didn’t tell me what it is. They have to do some tests. It’s an injury that I hope will be as minimal as possible,” he added.

Last season Real Madrid missed Thibaut Courtois and Eder Militao for much of the campaign with similar knee injuries.
