Nothing completes a Sunday roast quite like a roast potato, but if you want a twist on your usual roast potatoes, then trying skin on roasties could be the perfect option. According to BBC Good Food, not only do skin on roast potatoes offer a delicious crunch when you bite into them, but they can also make cooking even faster.
BBC Good Food said: “Try skin-on roasties – not only do they dramatically cut down the prep time, but it makes them more filling and gives them a deeper baked potato flavour.”
Though the potatoes can be roasted in the oven, with the rise in popularity of the air fryer, these delicious potatoes can also be made even faster in the air fryer.
Generally, the potatoes can be cooked in the air fryer in 30 minutes
For the best results, BBC Good Food recommends using Maris Piper potatoes. You can find Maris Piper potatoes in Sainsbury’s for £1.90 and Asda for £1.79, at the time of writing.
How to make crispy skin-on roast potatoes
This recipe is courtesy of BBC Good Food.
Ingredients
- 1kg of Maris Piper potatoes, unpeeled
- Two teaspoons of sunflower oil
Method
Step one: Begin by peeling 1kg of Maris Piper potatoes and cut into chunks. BBC Good Food recommends aiming for “walnut-sized” chunks.
Step two: Soak in a large pan of salted water for one hour, then drain and rinse.
Step three: Pat dry the potatoes with kitchen paper and tip into a bowl. Combine with two teaspoons of vegetable oil.
Step four: Toss the potatoes to coat, then arrange in a single layer in your air fryer basket. If you do not have enough room you might need to do this in batches. Cook at 180C for 20 minutes.
Step five: After 20 minutes, turn and shake the potatoes and then cook for another 10 minutes at 180C.
Step six: Check the potatoes. They may be done at this point but if you want them to be even crispier, cook for a further 10 to 15 minutes making sure to check every five minutes.
If you need to cook your potatoes in batches due to space, you should cook all of the batches together for the final five minutes. BBC Good Food said: “You will get a better result if you cook in a single layer, but cooking in batches does use more energy – you can cook the potatoes in more than one layer, but you’ll need to cook them for longer to make sure they’re crisp.
“Keep moving them around every 10 minutes to help achieve this. Remove the potatoes from the basket as soon as they’re ready so the skin doesn’t soften in the steam.”
