A LAG violently ambushed two female warders at Scotland’s biggest jail, we can reveal.
Cops were summoned after the thug lashed out while being restrained at notorious Barlinnie in Glasgow.
Both guards are understood to have suffered minor injuries.
The brute had earlier been spotted mouthing off on landings after lunchtime at the tough nick.
Police Scotland has launched a probe.
The force said: “We were made aware two members of staff had been assaulted within the prison.”
We told how attacks have rocketed amid a wave of synthetic drugs and more gangsters being caged.
And a prison insider blasted the latest “disgraceful” assault.
They said: “Anyone who lifts their hands to a woman is a coward.
“Some prisoners are out of control. They will often lash out to bag themselves a one-way ticket to the segregation block.”
Jail chiefs’ latest annual report revealed cases of serious violence have soared by 25 per cent.
Last night, a Scottish Prison Service spokesman said: “We take a zero-tolerance approach to violence.”
Elsewhere the governor Barlinnie fears criminals are applying for jobs as screws to serve as secret drug mules.
Barlinnie boss Mick Stoney admits the Glasgow nick is fighting a losing battle against illicit substances.
