Third-party presidential candidate Cornel West warned Democrats against celebrating former President Donald Trump’s removal from the Colorado 2024 ballot.
Earlier this week, Colorado’s Supreme Court released a 4-3 ruling barring Trump from running for office again due to his actions on January 6th, citing section three of the 14th Amendment.
West wrote a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Wednesday afternoon slamming Trump for being a “bonafide gangster” and “neofascist” but warned against celebrating his removal as a political victory.
“We must be very careful in celebrating this decision by the CO Supreme Court. It’s true that brother Trump is a bonafide gangster and neofascist who must be held accountable,” West wrote to his followers. “At the same time, we don’t want the courts deciding the outcome of elections – this power must reside with and for the people.”

He then went after President Joe Biden for his “anemic poll numbers,” claiming Democrats should not use the courts to go after his political opponents. Trump, who has not be formally charged for insurrection, has vowed to appeal Colorado’s ruling to the Supreme Court.
“The Democrats should not rely on the courts as a mechanism to circumvent Brother Biden’s anemic poll numbers. We want truth justice and love in American politics,” West added.
