A PROBE has been launched to find a ned who hit attacked a man with an onion on a city street.
The bizarre attack unfolded on Gorgie Road in Edinburgh on Wednesday night.
A shopper was walking outside the Greggs on the busy street around 9.20pm shortly before the attack.
Two teenagers on electric bikes then flew past him and one lobbed the layered foodstuff at him.
The onion hit him “like a rock” on the back of his head.
Witnesses told how the man fell to his knees after the attack and believed he had been hit with a stone due to the force of the impact.
A witness said: “I was just walking down Gorgie Road when two teens on electric bikes zoomed past and one threw an onion at some guys standing opposite us.
“Happened right opposite the Greggs around 9.20pm on Wednesday.
“Sounds silly, but the onion disintegrated on impact and hit the guy right in the back of the head.
“Made a loud sound and the guy dropped to his knees looking dazed.”
They added: “The man thought he was hit by a rock.”
They went on to say: “It’s the first time I’ve seen something as blatant as this. So bizarre.
“Neds will never see the consequences of this, and it’s scary to see them going this far and attack people. So, if anyone’s around the area, look out.”
Cops have now confirmed they are probing the incident to find the thug who attacked the pedestrian.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers received a report of an assault on Gorgie Road. Enquiries are ongoing.”
