Contexto is one of the nerdiest word games out there. The game tasks you with finding the word of the day by showing how close other words you guess are to it. This is measured by analyzing thousands of texts to find similarities between words.
How to play Contexto
You play Contexto by typing a word into the text box—anything that comes to mind. When you submit your guess, it will appear under the text box with a number next to it and a bar that can be red, yellow, or green. The lower the number of the word you guessed is, the more it’s related to today’s Contexto solution. The higher it is, the worse your guess is.
That’s why if you make a good guess, indicated by a low number and a green color bar, you should keep guessing similar words—for example, if “internet” is green, I would try “connection” or “computer.”
Conversely, if it’s a high number and red, try something totally different. Using the same example, if “internet” was red, I would try “dog” or “eyes.”
Contexto 731 hints (Sept. 18)
The answer for the Contexto puzzle for Sept. 18, Contexto 731, has something to do with clothing. It took a fair few guesses before I landed in the green today with “brand,” then “clothes” followed soon after. I then began guessing at random types of clothing—and it didn’t take me long to narrow today’s answer down.
From “headwear” to “head,” “top,” and “cover,” it was clear today’s Contexto has to do with wearing something on your head. “Hat” came in at number two, so I began guessing different one-word answers related to hats. On my second guess, I got the correct word. A final hint: We commonly see this type of clothing worn by some sports teams, and it doesn’t exactly protect the back of your neck!
Contexto 731 answer (Sept. 18)
Today’s solution to Contexto 731 is CAP. You get close if you guess “hat,” “shield,” “helmet,” “logo,” or “blue.” I’m not sure where “shield” comes into the equation when talking about wearing a cap, but hey, if you somehow got to cap via shield earlier on, then good on you!
