Telugu cinema superstar Allu Arjun has been arrested in connection with the tragic stampede at Sandhya Theatre on December 4, 2024, during the premiere screening of his film Pushpa 2: The Rule. The incident led to the death of a 35-year-old woman and injuries to her nine-year-old son, prompting a police investigation and widespread public outrage.

Actor Under Investigation Following FIR
Following the stampede, an FIR was filed against Allu Arjun, his security team, and the theatre management under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). After being questioned at the Chikkadpally police station on Friday, the actor was taken to a hospital for a medical test.
Confirming the arrest, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Chikkadpally, L. Ramesh Kumar, said, “Yes, he (Actor Allu Arjun) has been arrested.”
Allu Arjun’s father, noted producer Allu Aravind, his brother Allu Sirish, and his father-in-law Kancharla Chandrasekhar Reddy were present at the police station during the proceedings.
Legal Efforts and High Court Appeal
Earlier, Allu Arjun had approached the High Court seeking to quash the FIR against him, citing no direct involvement in the incident. Following his arrest, the actor spoke with his legal counsel to file a request for an urgent hearing.
Political Condemnation and Public Reactions
The arrest has sparked controversy, with political leaders and industry figures sharing their opinions. K. T. Rama Rao, working president of the Bharatiya Rashtra Samithi and former state minister, criticized the arrest on social media.
In his post, Rao wrote: “Arrest of National Award-winning star Allu Arjun is the pinnacle of insecurity of the rulers! I totally sympathize with the victims of the stampede, but who failed really? Treating @alluarjun Garu as a common criminal is uncalled for, especially for something he isn’t directly responsible. There is always space for respect & dignified conduct. I strongly condemn the high-handed behavior of Govt.”
