Closely Crafted is determined to do its part to preserve the craft in American fashion by raising awareness and resources for emerging artists seeking to break into the industry.
On Tuesday, the group, which was founded by Gigi Burris, hosted its second annual fundraiser for its Move the Needle campaign that attracts funding for programming geared toward artisan advancement.
The location itself was thoughtfully considered, with circularity and craft at the forefront. The venue was swathed in muslin fabric, which was later donated for educational purposes. Craft was on display with an activation by HIPS studio, an atelier known to create for Christopher John Rogers and Dauphinette, which performed the draping of a garment live at the event. Dozens of pleating techniques were also showcased from Tom’s Sons International Pleating, a local master pleating atelier. A video focusing on six local artisans across a number of skills also premiered at the event.
Guests included Brandon Maxwell, Willy Chavarria, Christopher John Rogers, Maxwell Osborne and Ashlynn Park, who all received lapel pins crafted from a third-generation silk flower atelier.
