City of Cape Town announces an 8-hour water shutdown on Wednesday

The City of Cape Town has announced an 8-hour water shutdown scheduled for Wednesday. Residents are advised to prepare for temporary disruptions in their water supply as essential maintenance work is carried out by the City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate.

Scheduled for Wednesday, 6 March, from 9:00 to 17:00, the City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will be undertaking critical infrastructure work, necessitating temporary adjustments in water services.

Affected areas by the water shutdown

The maintenance team will install new control valves on the water supply network in Plumstead. This will result in a temporary water shutdown in St Joans, Burnham, and Doordrift Roads, as well as surrounding areas. The shutdown will occur during the specified hours.

“This [maintenance] work is vital for ensuring the long-term benefit of our customers,” stated City of Cape Town.

The City urge residents to make necessary arrangements, such as storing sufficient water for household use during the shutdown period.

Water discoloration expected after maintenance

Following the completion of the maintenance work, residents may notice temporary discoloration or cloudiness in the water supply due to trapped air in the pipes. However, this should dissipate shortly after the water supply is restored.

The City assures residents that every effort will be made to minimise disruption during the shutdown period. However, unforeseen complexities may arise, potentially extending the duration of the shutdown.

These measures are essential for the long-term benefit of the community. They ensure the continued provision of safe and reliable water services, despite any inconvenience.
