Chippy introduces new ‘battered’ food – people can’t wait to try

A chip shop has caused quite the stir online after introducing a “battered” innovation to its menu.

While battered cod, haddock and sausage are renowned in the industry, ever since the battered Mars bar was devised in Scotland in the early 1990s, restaurants have been keen to emulate its success.

Now, one chip shop has given it a go by simply battering chips – much to their customers’ delight. A snap of the eatery in question was shared to Reddit, alongside the caption: “Fish and Chips Intensifies. Aggressively Northern.”

“Now selling battered chips,” declared a banner in bold red in its window.

“They are the unhealthiest abominations but they are so very delicious, would recommend trying at least once,” one Redditor declared in response.

“This changes everything,” gushed a second in excitement. While a third asked: “Omg where is this??? I want to give them my money!”

Others claimed the delicacy is native to the West Midlands, more specifically Wolverhampton in the Black Country. “Battered chips are amazing!” one person said. “Am in Wolvo so have these when we have chippy. Couldn’t go back to regular.”

A second divulged: “I’m from the Black Country so just about every single chippy offers normal and/or battered chips. I love to have a mix. I think it was a chippie in Dudley Port that started them. I remember in the early 80s it was the only local place to get them. Everywhere in The BC now. Battered chips to The BC are what jellied eels are to London.”

And a third clarified the claim, adding: “As a man born in Wolverhampton, I can assure you battered chips are incredible. I didn’t think chips could get any better, I was wrong.”
