Poached eggs are arguably the most difficult breakfast ingredient to make at home and are a hot topic among home cooks.
Many people have taken to social media to share their preferred techniques for poaching eggs, but not all of them provide the desired results.
While some favour traditional methods involving a pan of boiling water, others swear by the addition of vinegar and careful swirling of the water for perfect poached eggs.
However, one chef insists that her microwave method is the best approach for a speedy and delicious breakfast.
In a video posted on her TikTok profile, Pallavi (@psistsmylife), dismissed claims that microwave-poached eggs “don’t work”.
She stated: “Really, making poached eggs in the microwave is super simple and environmentally friendly. So let me teach you how to do it.”
Pallavi began by cracking an egg directly into a small, heatproof glass bowl.
She then filled the bowl with cold water from a jug, covering the egg completely, noting that one of the main “rules to follow” is to fully submerge the eggs in the water.
The TikTok chef then put the bowl in the microwave at full power for 50 seconds.
Pallavi cautioned: “Don’t let the water get too hot. So split the cooking time. You are aiming for a total of one minute and 10 seconds.”
For optimal results, she recommended following her 50-20 approach: microwaving the eggs for 50 seconds initially, then opening the microwave for a brief pause before heating them for an additional 20 seconds.
The egg-cooking expert stated: “There is something called trial and error. If your egg explodes, reduce the cooking.”
Fans of the cooking hack took to the comments to share their tips for perfect poached eggs, with one person suggested poking the yolk with a toothpick to stop them from exploding when cooking.
One TikTok user commented: “As a microwave girlie, thank you.” A second chimed: “I wish I saw this earlier.”
