Everyone has their own method for cooking bacon, but nobody likes it when it’s too soft.
It can be tricky to get that perfect crunch across every meaty rasher, especially without using glugs of oil or butter.
That said, one chef has claimed to know the method for the “best bacon ever” in the absence of oil, an oven and even an air fryer.
Chef Thomson, 23, is a hit on TikTok with over 41.1 million likes for his top recipes.
He says the biggest mistake we make with bacon is cooking it on high heat to make it quick, which leaves it “very dry and crusty”, as previously reported by The Mirror.
In a video posted on his profile, he said: “This is not a steak, you are not making a crust.” But Thomson reassured his followers that if you try his way, you’ll get “some of the best bacon you’ll probably ever have”.
The chef’s method starts with putting bacon in a cold pan over high heat on the stove. He then added water until it covered the bacon before lowering the heat to medium.

Thomson said: “Stop being afraid to flip the bacon. You do not need to keep the bacon on one side for a long time. You’ll end up with this beautiful, soft, rich, chewy bacon.”
He added: “Using this method, you can still make the bacon crispy. Just leave it in the pan longer. There’s a difference between crispy and burnt.”
While it’s easy to see that this cooking tip works on raw bacon, there’s a good reason why it’s so productive.
The addition of water keeps the initial cooking temperature low and gentle, so the meat retains its moisture and stays tender as the fat renders.
Plus, since the water helps render the fat, it means there’s much less splatter as the bacon finishes cooking in the pan.
Many TikTok users praised the cooking tip for its effectiveness. One person commented: “I agree because I used to like crunchy bacon but I tried cooking bacon this way and it slaps.”
Another added: “That’s the best bacon I’ve ever seen,” and a third chimed: “I love this bacon”.
