“With a grant from the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY), we are developing a data center in Guwahati. It should be in place by March 2025. So, we are expecting that operations would commence by then,” RK Mishra, Managing Director, NICSI told ET.
The Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government is spending more than Rs 600 crores in putting up a new data centre in the India’s northeastern state.
“It was for 200 racks initially. Now, we have got another piece of land allotted by the government of Assam, so we will be expanding it to another 200 racks,” the top official said.
The data centre, according to him, would primarily cater for requirements of the country’s northern and central region.
Lately, the public sector firm has been investing heavily in putting up Information Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure in the country, following state-led digital transformation initiatives and expansion of citizen-centric services.“We are investing into nation building and creating a robust ICT infrastructure including data centres as well as development centres,” he said.The government entity had already set up multiple data centres across Delhi, Pune, Hyderabad and Bhubaneswar.
“We have our own limitations in terms of infrastructure and the requirement of the user department is significantly high, and it is difficult for us to manage that,” the top official added.
The state-owned firm also invested into various other products, such as e-office, and e-procurement which, according to it, are being used by government departments and agencies.
Under the memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the RailTel Corporation, the country’s informatics centre is using the former’s data centre for hosting public sector customer servers.
