CELTIC are keen to reward Alistair Johnston for his excellent start to the season with a bumper new contract.
The Canadian right back has been back to his best at the start of the campaign with the Hoops still having a perfect domestic record.
The news comes as the Canadian full back emerged as an injury doubt for the start of the club’s Champions League campaign after being sent home from international duty.
He’s still got three years remaining on his current deal, but the Daily Record claims that the Hoops hierarchy have opened talks aimed at tying him down on a longer term contract on improved terms.
Coming over from MLS side CF Montreal two years ago under the reign of Ange Postecoglou, Johnston has proved invaluable to the Hoops.
He’s more than earned a raise to bring him in line with some of the club’s highest earners, but penning a new contract could still represent a big decision.

Johnston, who turns 26 next month, will be 28 when his current contract expires.
Celtic will be keen to tie him down now or risk losing him under the Bosman ruling when he could be a hot property for clubs in bigger leagues.
Assuming that injury proves minor, Johnston has eight games to prove his worth in the Champions League – starting with Slovan Bratislava next week.
Should Johnston’s injury fail to recover in time, the Hoops will go with Anthony Ralston at right back.
The Scotland full back got 180 minutes under his belt with the national team in the clashes with Poland and Portugal.
