“Sustain by Cartist” showcases upcycled auto-art at GMR Aerocity, New Delhi, blending creativity, heritage, and sustainability with unique installations and interactive experiences.
New Delhi: As the global climate crisis intensifies, Cartist, a Jaipur-based organization, is pushing the boundaries of sustainable art with its latest initiative, “Sustain by Cartist.” The exhibition, held from September 20-30 at GMR Aerocity in New Delhi, features striking art installations, creative activities, and an exclusive collection of upcycled furniture. Each piece is crafted from discarded automobile parts, promoting sustainability through innovative art.
The project aims to reduce automotive waste by transforming scrap materials into functional and artistic creations, blending local craftsmanship with design. “Sustain by Cartist” reflects a fusion of art, heritage, and sustainability, creating a unique auto-art ecosystem that reinvents automotive history while addressing environmental concerns.
According to Cartist founder Himanshu Jangid, this initiative extends his passion for preserving automobile heritage. “With ‘Sustain by Cartist,’ we aim to turn scrap automotive parts into eco-friendly furniture and art. It’s about more than recycling—it’s about showing the potential of what would otherwise be discarded,” Jangid explained.
Featured Installations:
Reborn Jaguar: A centerpiece of the exhibition, this installation reimagines the classic Jaguar E-Type using salvaged parts like gears and rusted exhaust pipes. The sculpture not only embodies automotive beauty but also highlights the power of recycling in combating waste. The reimagined E-Type encourages viewers to consider the environmental impact of the automotive industry.
King of Indian Roads: This installation pays homage to India’s iconic Ambassador car, reconstructed from over 1,500 pieces of discarded scrap. By utilizing parts like bearings, clutch plates, and pistons, the installation showcases how discarded materials can be reassembled into something beautiful, underlining the importance of sustainability in today’s consumption-driven world.
E-Waste Car: Inspired by the chip shortage during the COVID-19 pandemic, this installation is made entirely from discarded electronic components, such as circuit boards and microchips. It highlights society’s reliance on finite resources and advocates for a circular economy that focuses on reusing materials rather than creating new ones.
Interactive Experience: “Mai Bhi Cartist”
One of the key attractions of the event is “Mai Bhi Cartist,” an interactive activity where participants of all ages can paint alongside a Cartist artist. The initiative transforms an ordinary car into a collective masterpiece, celebrating creativity and emphasizing that everyone can contribute to art and sustainability.
The “Sustain by Cartist” exhibition encourages a rethinking of automotive waste, promoting creativity, heritage, and environmental responsibility through its powerful installations and interactive experiences.
