It’s always exciting when you buy a new car, whether it’s truly new or just new to you. You’ve usually read reviews, comparison shopped, taken multiple test drives and finally made a deal on a vehicle that will hopefully better suit your needs. Maybe you needed something bigger or just wanted something more reliable, but regardless, you don’t see too many people buy new cars they think is worse than their old ones.
Still, the purchase price is only the beginning of the cost of car ownership. You have to fuel it up, keep it insured, maintain it and repair anything that breaks, and those costs can add up quickly. Recently, our friends at Consumer Reports put together a list of how much it costs to maintain and repair different brands over a period of 10 years. The difference can be thousands of dollars, so read through and at least make your next purchase with your eyes open to how much it will likely cost you to keep that new car on the road. Or check out the list of the automakers with the lowest 10-year maintenance and repair costs.
