Gandhi, who spent his Sunday touring his former constituency, said at a campaign meeting at Mananthavady that he would prefer to address voters as members of family rather than focus his speech on Modi. The Opposition leader said his sister “anyway has mentioned Mr.Modi, and we are all bored of him. Why mention him twice.”
Vadra is contesting the November 13 bypolls as the UDF candidate for the Kerala seat vacated by her brother.
Gandhi instead chose to devote his speech to highlight the virtues of the UDF candidate, who, he said, always campaigned for others but this was for the first time she was battling an election and seeking votes for herself.
She would be the best MP that Wayanad would have if elected. She had already hit the ground running, thinking about uplifting the lives of people and drawing up plans across sectors for food processing, storage, tourism, infrastructure etc.
Gandhi, who won the LS polls in 2019 and 2024, pledged to remain the voice of Wayanad in Parliament. The Kerala LS constituency would be the only constituency in India that would have two MPs — one official and another unofficial, referring to himself. He would be at the service of Wayanad anytime people needed.MODI GIVING AWAY PORTSThe UDF candidate, in her speech, targeted Prime Minister Modi saying he was handing over the country’s airports and seaports to his businessmen friends.
The Modi regime, Vadra alleged, attacked Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi for fighting for people’s rights. The government spent huge resources to malign Gandhi’s image through social media and other channels. The government fought him for standing for people’s rights. The people of Wayanad, however, threw their weight behind him.
The NDA regime, she added, was not working for people, but to promote PM’s businessmen friends. “Modi ji’s single agenda is to be in power by any means possible. He doesn’t focus on employment, health, education and the well-being of the people.”
The AICC general secretary accused the NDA regime of dividing people, spreading anger and hatred, trampling on the rights of people and stifling democratic institutions.
