Birthday Throwback: When Sonam Kapoor said that no woman should feel guilty over spending time with family | Hindi Movie News

Sonam Kapoor started her career with “Sawaariya”, and has since then, spent around 15 years in the industry. Between 2020 and 2023, she took a hiatus, shuttling between London and Mumbai, embracing motherhood and naming her baby boy Vayu. Today, the Raanjhanaa actress turns 39.

In an interview last year, Sonam opened up on her hiatus. He told IndiaToday.in, “I miss cinema and the industry, but this break was crucial for bonding with my baby and family.Starting at 17 and pausing at 36, I feel I’ve dedicated ample time to work. Now, I’m ready to return.”
She added, “But, that break was important for me to avoid feeling stuck in a rut. I don’t want to regret not spending time with my baby, my family. No woman should feel guilty about giving time to their family.”
Earlier, during an appearance on Karan Johar’s popular talk show “Koffee with Karan,” Sonam raised eyebrows when she referred to herself as an “icon.” This unexpected self-proclaimed title sparked surprise and conversation among fans and media alike.
A couple of years back, Sonam Kapoor appeared on the famous and sometimes controversial show, ‘Koffee With Karan’. In one of the early episodes, Kapoor also referred to herself as an icon. She mentioned, “I am being considered an icon in my twenties; when people, like in their forties or after they die, are called icons.”

When he asked her if she’s worried about people noticing her more for her fashion than her acting skills, she said, “I’m bothered about being recognized more for her fashion than her performances. She said, “The biggest movie stars in this world were all fashion icons. Whether it’s an Audrey Hepburn, whether it’s a Marilyn Monroe, whether it’s a Katherine Hepburn, Meena Kumari, Sharmila Tagore, Rekha… They’ve always been fashion icons; they’ve always set trends. The masses like me as a regular, normal girl; those are the people who see my films. That’s why my films do the kind of business that they do. But the ‘classes’ who see me on Vogue or watch Koffee with Karan like me as a fashion icon. So, I think I’m catering to both sides.”

She further mentioned, “The thing about the industry is that if you’re not good-looking, they think you’re a good actor… You need to look like you’re from the pinnacle, you know what I mean? I do North Indian roles, but I’m from the JVPD Scheme, but I can do a Bittu from Delhi-6, or a Zoya from Lucknow, and at the same time I can do an Ayesha, or I can do an I Hate Luv Stories. Just because you look ordinary and act loud doesn’t mean you’re a good actor. That’s rubbish. It’s also like, people feel bad, like,’she’looks like this, she might as well be a good actor’.”
On the work front, Sonam Kapoor’s last movie appearance was in the crime thriller ‘Blind,’ released on July 7, 2023, and directed by Shome Makhija. Produced by Sujoy Ghosh, this film marked her return after six years since ‘The Zoya Factor’ in 2019.
