Bihar Congress Legislature Party leader Shakeel Ahmed Khan’s 17-year-old son, Ayaan Khan, allegedly died by suicide at their residence on Monday. The class 12 student had been introduced to Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, during his recent visit to Bihar.
The incident took place at Khan’s official residence in Patna and police officials have arrived at the scene. Further details are awaited.
Ayaan was found hanging from a ceiling fan at the official residence of his father in Sachiwalaya area, news agency PTI reported. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, a senior officer said, adding that the exact cause of death was yet to be ascertained.
Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Awkash Kumar, confirmed that senior officials and forensic experts had reached the location where the incident took place. They are currently collecting scientific evidence to aid in the investigation.
The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and authorities are investigating the case from all angles. The exact cause of death is still being determined, Kumar added.
Khan, the Congress MLA from Kadwa and the party’s in-charge for West Bengal, is currently outside Patna but is expected to return after hearing about his son’s death.
His family members have already gathered at the residence. Ayan had one brother and one sister, who is studying law in England.
The news of Ayan’s death has sent shockwaves through both the local community and Congress circles.
Speaking about the tragedy, Bihar State Congress spokesperson Rakesh Rathore told news agency IANS: “He had only one child, who was very dear, studious, and well-mannered. It’s very difficult to say how the incident occurred.”
Rathore added: “From what we have gathered from others, the mother went to wake him up for school, and the door was closed, and that’s when the news came. No one is in a position to speak.”
