The film got premiered on the occasion of Eid this year, the makers predicted that it was the optimal time to release the film. However, the exact opposite happened with Maidaan at the box office.

Ajay Devgn’s Maidaan and Akshay Kumar’s Bade Miyan Chote Miyan got their theatrical release assuming that the audience will likely watch these two films during Eid. Despite being different genres, both films turned out to be huge blunders at the box office. Maidaan ran out of audience as soon as it got released. The film was based on a biopic of a football coach Syed Abdul Rahim. However, the film got good reviews but still,l it failed to bring the audience to the theatres.

According to a news report by the Times of India, Maidaan was produced with a massive budget of Rs 250 crore. After the first week, the film earned just Rs 28.35 crore, in the second week it made a business of Rs 10.25 crore and by the third week it managed to earn Rs 80 lakh on Friday, Rs 1.65 crore on Saturday, and Rs 2 crore on Sunday. Overall Maidaan approximately earned Rs 68 crore worldwide. The makers incurred a massive loss of Rs 180 crore. Soon after seeing the dry run at the box office, Maidaan got its OTT release.
