Biden campaign drops new ad targeting Trump over debate comments

President Biden’s campaign released a new advertisement Friday targeting former President Trump over comments he made during the first presidential debate.

“Donald Trump doesn’t care about you,” Biden posted on social media platform X, along with the video.

The 29-second advertisement featured clips of Trump from the debate paired with text that outlined why the campaign believes the former president is a danger to democracy.

It begins with text on a black screen that reads “Donald Trump doesn’t care about our veterans.” It then cuts to a clip of the presumptive GOP nominee saying the words “suckers and losers,” which has become a major talking point for the Biden campaign, which the former president has disputed.

“Donald Trump doesn’t care about our democracy,” the video reads, cutting to a clip of Trump during the debate saying that the U.S. was respected “all over the world” on January 6, 2021, when a violent mob attacked the Capitol.

The ad then claims Trump “doesn’t care about Black families” and jumps to the former president saying, “they’re taking Black jobs” — a phrase that drew scrutiny from Black Americans.

The campaign also argued that Trump cares little about reproductive rights, with a clip of Trump saying Thursday that he put three “great” Supreme Court justices on the high court and “they happened to vote in favor of killing Roe v. Wade. It’s been a great thing.”

“Donald Trump only cares about himself,” the ad concludes. “And if he wins, he’ll only help himself. Because he doesn’t care about you.”

Biden’s campaign appears to be doing some damage control after the president’s poor debate performance as Democrats have fallen into a panic. Calls for him to step aside and give someone else the chance to take on Trump in November have increased since the event.

At a campaign rally Friday, Biden acknowledged the misstep.

“Whether young or old, here’s what I know. I know how to tell the truth. I know right from wrong. I know how to do this job,” he said, later adding “I would not be running again if I did not believe with all of my heart and soul that I can do this job because quite frankly, the stakes are too high.”

“Donald Trump is a genuine threat to this nation,” he added.
