Bridgerton fans have rejoiced and how! Lady Whistledown graced us with news of season 3 on May 16 and it promised to be just as captivating as its predecessors. The first half of the season delivered a fresh batch of romantic entanglements, social intrigue, and a glimpse into the cutthroat world of London’s marriage market. This season centers on the blossoming romance between Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton). Their journey from friends to lovers promised to be a slow burn, packed with simmering tension.

Adding a dash of intrigue is the introduction of Miss Malhotra, played by British-Indian actress Banita Sandhu. As a potential diamond of the season, Miss Malhotra is one of the young girls in the marriage market. Will she challenge the established social order? Could she be a potential match for one of the Bridgerton brothers, or perhaps another eligible bachelor? Only time, and Lady Whistledown’s scathing wit, will tell.
Born to Indian parents in Wales, she has already carved a path in the entertainment industry. Her dedication to acting began at a young age, and she landed her first agent at the tender age of 11. Sandhu’s breakout role came in the critically acclaimed Hindi film October which established her as an actress to watch. Undeterred by language or genre, she has actively pursued projects showcasing her versatility, transitioning to American television and returning to India for film projects.
On Friday, after the social media discovered Banita Sandhu was a part of the show, she took to her Instagram account to share a series of photos from the sets of the film. Sharing the photographs, the actor said, “Had a ton of fun. So grateful to have had the opportunity to immerse myself in the Bridgerton universe, being able to dress up and join the world of @juliaquinnauthor’s incredible characters.”
“Thank you @netflix and @shondaland for a wonderful experience that I will forever cherish. Wish I could keep the costumes though”, she added. In one of the posts, she was wearing a white ball gown followed by an array of the photos with the co-stars Florence Hunt and Will Tilston who play Hyacinth and Gregory Bridgerton, the youngest siblings of the family. She also shared a photo with the author of the show Julia Quinn.
This season, Penelope has finally given up on her long-held crush on Colin after his hurtful remarks last season. She now seeks a husband who will grant her independence, allowing her to continue her double life as Lady Whistledown. However, Penelope’s lack of confidence makes her initial attempts at finding a husband rather disastrous.
Meanwhile, Colin returns from his travels with a newfound confidence and a dashing new look. However, he’s disheartened to realize that Penelope, the one person who always saw him for who he was, is now giving him the cold shoulder. Determined to win back her friendship, Colin offers to mentor Penelope in the art of confidence, hoping to help her find a husband this season.
But as Colin’s lessons start to work a little too well, he begins to grapple with his true feelings for Penelope. Are they simply friendly, or is there something more?
Further complicating matters for Penelope is her strained relationship with Eloise (Claudia Jessie). Eloise has found a new friend in an unexpected place, leaving Penelope feeling isolated. Meanwhile, Penelope’s growing presence in society makes it increasingly difficult to keep her Lady Whistledown identity a secret.
Bridgerton returns for its third season in a two-part format. Part 1 premiered on May 16, 2024, with Part 2 scheduled for release on June 13, 2024.
