With various actors being rumoured for the lead roles, details about the film have been largely speculative until recently. In a humorous and creative twist, the filmmaker took to social media to reveal the cast of his much-anticipated film in an unexpected way.
The Hilarious Social Media Announcement
SS Rajamouli surprised his followers by sharing a hilarious post on his social media account that confirmed the lead cast of SSMB29. The post featured a picture of a caged lion and the director holding a passport. Through this playful image, SS Rajamouli hinted that he had ‘caught the lion’ – referring to Mahesh Babu, who has often been called a lion, especially after voicing Mufasa in the Telugu version of Disney’s The Lion King. The caption suggested that Rajamouli had ‘captured’ Mahesh Babu’s passport as the actor would be busy filming for SSMB29.
Mahesh Babu responded to the post by quoting a famous line from his 2006 blockbuster Pokiri, saying, “Once I commit, I won’t even listen to myself,” confirming his involvement in the project. On the other hand, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, who had already hinted at ‘a new chapter in her life’, also confirmed her participation by commenting “Finally!” on the post.

On January 2, 2025, SSMB29 was officially launched with a special Pooja ceremony in Hyderabad, which was attended by both SS Rajamouli and Mahesh Babu. The venue was beautifully decorated with flowers, panels, and stills from SS Rajamouli’s previous films. The shoot for the film has already commenced, and it is slated for release in 2028.
