On July 29, the Tamil Film Producers Council made a few important decisions. One of them is to put a stop to all movie production activities, effective from the first day of November.
On July 29, the TFPC held a meeting, during which they made some critical decisions that will heavily impact the Tamil cinema. Starting from November 1st, any form of film production will be put on hold. In the meeting, they also tackled pressing issues such as escalating actor paychecks, financial problems being experienced by film producers, along with rules and regulations regarding the premiere of significant movies on streaming platforms.
The meeting saw the attendance of key members from various Tamil cinema and theatre associations. Representatives from the Tamil Film Producers Council, executives from the Tamil Film Producers Association, the Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners Association and the Tamil Nadu Theatre Multiple Association, along with key members of the Tamil Nadu Film Distributors Association were all part of the gathering.
Post-meeting, the TFPC has joined forces to present six noteworthy resolutions as detailed below:
- Films with leading actors, they should release film on the OTT platforms only after a break of two months subsequent to their theatrical release.
- Film production houses have been hit hard financially as actors and staff take upfront payments and then run off to work on other projects. A decision has been made: anyone who has pocketed an advance needs to wrap up the ongoing movie before they hop over to the next offer.Tamil actor, Dhanush has lately signed multiple deals with numerous movie producers and collected payments in advance. Before zooming into their upcoming ventures, these producers have been guided to secure green signal from the Tamil Film Producers Council.
- Turned around, many Tamil films are facing hold-ups as they can’t score proper theater slots. To sort this hiccup out, the film guild is gearing up to roll out fresh rules. As a result, the making of new movies will hit the pause button from the 16th of August.
- The expected wrap-up date for current films in production is slated to be October 30th. It’s imperative for these production houses involved to keep the Tamil Film Producers Council in the loop about the filming progress.
- The film industry is currently brainstorming ways to control and revamp the skyrocketing compensation and operational costs associated with actors and behind-the-scenes technicians. As a result, the governing council has recommended pausing all activities related to Tamil cinema from the beginning of November onwards.
- Collaboratively, a group of producers, distributors, and cinema operators will come together to form a Joint Action Committee, laying a groundwork to tackle the challenges that the film industry is facing.
