A heartwarming tale of friendship, the film showcases the story of a washed-up athlete and his team trying to win a championship, all led by a scruffy stray dog named Arthur. Also starring Simu Liu, Juliet Rylance and special guest Bear Grylls, Arthur The King premieres digitally this 5th July only on Lionsgate Play.

Talking about the injuries he faced when filming Arthur The King, Mark Wahlberg said, “I tore my meniscus in my knee on the first day. I could hear it pop and I felt it. But I thought, well, these guys, that’s what they do. They suffer, they endure pain, both physically and mentally. This is exactly what adventure racers do. There was no quit in them so certainly there was no quit in me. It definitely put a damper on the training that I was doing, because I like cycling in the morning and then running on the beach. I wasn’t really able to do those things. I just didn’t want to injure it any more.”

Adding on about the movie almost shutting down, Mark said “The doctors were encouraging me to get the surgery and shut the movie down. But I felt it took us so long to get there that we might not get another opportunity to do it. I didn’t want to be the reason for the movie falling apart.”

Talking about working with a four-legged costar, Mark Wahlberg said, “It was remarkable. I was just talking to a journalist and he was like: “Well you must have had 3 or 4 dogs…” No, it was one dog. Ukai did it all. Everything. And it was remarkable to see how engaged he was on an emotional level. He and I bonded very quickly, so it was a wonderful experience. I did feed him and sneak him a lot of steaks though… steaks and chicken. I wanted to make sure that I was always his favourite.”

Adding on about the dogs in his life, he said, “I have four wonderful dogs in my home… I did try to bribe [Ukai’s] trainer to let me have the dog and take the dog home. Obviously, she said no – there’s a real serious connection and love there, and a bond that will not be broken. But I do have four beautiful dogs at home that we love and cherish.”
