“You will have moments of self-doubt in any profession and you fight through it. When films don’t pan out, those moments become days, then months and then years. You start doubting yourself, the negative always sounds louder.” Arjun said.  He shared about mental health and stated, “So, when I went through this phase, I started seeking therapy. I have been somebody who has taken responsibility, I don’t go and talk to people about it. I tried to deal with it the best way I could. The depression and therapy part started happening last year. This last one year was more personal than professional. I just knew something wasn’t working. I had even stopped enjoying watching films. My life was films and suddenly I started watching other people’s work and thought to myself, “Will I be able to or will I get a chance?”

“I haven’t always opened up about it, but I also have Hashimoto’s disease (an autoimmune disease that damages the thyroid gland), which is an extension of the thyroid. It’s almost like I can take a flight and gain weight because the body goes in distress. That happened to be when I was 30, and I defied it. My mom used to have it and my sister (Anshula Kapoor) also has it. I could see me and my body changing through the course of my films,” he explained. Arya Babbar ‘Defends’ Arjun Kapoor’s ‘Singham 3’ Casting With a Sneaky Dig at His Past With Malaika Arora (Watch Video).

What Is Hashimoto’s Autoimmune Disease?

According to Advance Functional Medicine, Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, or Hashimoto’s disease, is an autoimmune disorder where the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks the thyroid gland, a small butterfly-shaped gland at the base of the neck. The thyroid plays a crucial role in regulating many aspects of our health, such as metabolism, energy levels, and heart rate. However, when Hashimoto’s occurs, this constant immune attack can cause the thyroid to become inflamed, eventually leading to an underactive thyroid or hypothyroidism.

Three Key Facts About Hashimoto’s Disease:

Symptoms

People with Hashimoto’s often experience symptoms like fatigue, weight gain, sensitivity to cold, hair loss, dry skin, muscle aches, and even depression. These symptoms develop slowly over time, often making the condition hard to diagnose in its early stages.

Hormonal Imbalance

The thyroid gland produces hormones that are essential for regulating metabolism and energy levels. When the gland is underactive, hormone levels drop, slowing down various bodily processes.

Treatment

While there’s no cure for Hashimoto’s, treatments focus on managing symptoms. Most patients are prescribed synthetic thyroid hormones to replace the hormones that the body isn’t producing naturally. Regular blood tests help adjust dosages as needed.
