Oscar winning Indian music composer AR Rahman may land in legal problems for a sensory film, ‘Le Musk’, he directed in 2022.
New Delhi: Legendary two-time Oscar winning music composer AR Rahman may land into major legal trouble for his 2022 directorial ‘Le Musk’. The film stars Nora Arnezeder, Guy Burnet, Munirih Grace and Mariam Zohrabyan. It is a 37 minute cinematic sensory experience produced, directed by AR Rahman. The virtual-reality piece is a one-of-a-kind sensory experience using scents and haptics.
According to a source close to Zee Media, Koshayojan Services Limited and MaI LADS LLO, entities under the Mai Group, known for their cutting-edge innovations in immersive experiences, have initiated legal proceedings against prominent figures in the entertainment industry. The Mai Group has sought the expertise of top law firm, Luthra and Luthra Law Office India, to helm the legal action suit against the Grammy-award winner. The entities under Mai Group may sue him against “unauthorized utilization of their revolutionary sensory-driven technology.” The group claims to have a technology that can integrate all human senses and create a transcendental immersive experience for all its users.
According to Mai Group, ‘Le Musk’ purportedly incorporates elements strikingly reminiscent of Mai Group’s pioneering technology, raising significant questions about intellectual property rights and creative ownership in the entertainment industry.
Other than Rahman, the case is also against all other entities involved in the production of the short sensory film – Positron, LLC, Intel Corporation, and The Feelies Limited.
Representatives of the Mai Group were unavailable for comment at the time of publishing this story.
The 2022 virtual reality thriller film is an immersive experience punctured by scent, motion and music. It was premiered at the 75th Cannes Festival. While the film mustered critical acclaim at the time of its release, it might be under legal fire now.
