Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman and his wife, Saira Banu, shocked fans on Tuesday evening, November 19, by announcing their separation after 29 years of marriage. On the same day, Mohini Dey, a celebrated bassist who has collaborated with AR Rahman on numerous projects, also revealed her split from her husband, Mark Hartsuch. The timing of the two announcements sparked speculation online about a possible connection between the two divorces. There are linkup rumours between the two that has come as an another angle.

Rahman and Saira’s legal representative, Vandana Shah, was quick to dismiss the rumours. Speaking to Republic TV, she stated, “There is no connection at all. Saira and Mr. Rahman made this decision on their own.” She further clarified that Rahman and Saira’s decision to part ways was deeply personal and stemmed from “significant emotional strain” in their relationship.

Mohini Dey, 29, is a bass player from Kolkata known for her role in Gaan Bangla’s Wind of Change. She has performed alongside Rahman in over 40 shows worldwide. In her joint Instagram post with her husband, she emphasised that their decision to part ways was mutual and requested respect for their privacy. “Please honor the decision we have made by being positive towards us and respecting our privacy. We would appreciate no judgments,” her statement read.

Rahman, known for his poetic flair, shared an emotional message on Twitter shortly after the divorce news came out. “We had hoped to reach the grand thirty, but all things, it seems, carry an unseen end… Thank you for your kindness and for respecting our privacy as we walk through this fragile chapter,” he wrote.

Vandana Shah also confirmed there were no financial disputes involved in Rahman and Saira’s separation and described the process as amicable. “Both of them are extremely genuine, and this decision was not taken lightly,” she said.

Despite the internet buzz, Rahman and Dey’s representatives have categorically denied any connection between the two divorces. The coincidental timing may have stirred the rumour mill, but those close to both parties urge fans to avoid jumping to conclusions and respect their decisions during this challenging time.
