iPhones, iPads and Macs compatible with Apple Intelligence
- Apple Intelligence is compatible only with the A17 Pro chip, and M1 to M4 SoCs. So only devices running these processors will be able to access Apple Intelligence. This includes the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPads running the M1 chip or later, and Macs powered by the M1 chip or later.
- There’s still a wide array of iPads and Macs that will get access to Apple’s AI features but for iPhones, it’s only the iPhone 15 Pro series. These are Apple’s most expensive iPhones starting at Rs 1,34,900 in India.
- It’s also understood that the upcoming iPhone 16 series will get Apple Intelligence and any new iPad or Mac model. Apple Intelligence will be available in beta, and released later this fall with iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia. All features will be available in US English only.
The limited access to Apple Intelligence for only two iPhones might sound disappointing as even Samsung and Google have been more liberal with their AI features. Samsung rolled out its AI features for last year’s Galaxy S23 series and it plans on expanding it to older models. Google has also rolled out its AI editing features to older Pixel phones.
Apple’s new AI features
Apple unveiled its new AI features at WWDC 2024 with an interesting nameplay calling it ‘Apple Intelligence’. Siri has received the biggest upgrade with Apple Intelligence giving it a complete makeover and making it sound more natural. You can now type out tasks to Siri, command actions within apps, and even extract details from a photo and enter it into a form.
Apple Intelligence also lets you create images and emojis using AI. You just have to enter text prompts and AI will do the rest. Writing should also get easier with AI-powered tools to proofread and even rephrase your sentences. Apple has also given into photo editing with a Magic Eraser-like Cleanup tool for photos.
