Apple fans buzzing as hidden button saves you space on your iPhone for free – but there’s a catch

APPLE fans are buzzing after realising an iOS 17 feature introduced late last year can save tons of storage on their iPhone.

It’s free and all it takes is one swipe of a toggle in your Settings – but there’s a catch.

The iOS 17 feature automatically deletes verification codes in iMessage and Mail after users use the AutoFill feature.

Getting verification codes sent to your iPhone can help provide an extra layer of security to all your accounts.

But they can stack up and eat into your storage space if you’re not careful.

iOS 17 rolled out last September, just after Apple’s iPhone 15 hit the shelves.

While the nifty trick was introduced to iPhones months ago, it may have been overlooked by many as the feature is tucked away in the Settings.

As Apple puts it: “With this setting turned on in iOS 17 or later, your iPhone will delete verification codes in Messages or Mail automatically after the code has been used with AutoFill.”

Here’s how you can set it up and create more storage space:

  1. In the Settings app, tap Passwords.
  2. Tap Password Options.
  3. Turn on Clean Up Automatically.

If you haven’t updated to iOS 17 yet, it’s important to make sure that your device is eligible for the system upgrade beforehand.

When the feature was first unveiled, Android owners were quick to point out that they have had access to this feature “for years.”

Despite this, one Twitter user said the iOS 17 feature was a sign that “it’s time to switch back to iOS.”
