Anthony Rizzo, injured Yankees not yet ready for Cardinals

The Yankees should be in line for some help in the lineup and in the bullpen soon, but it won’t come Friday night, when they open a series against the Cardinals.

Anthony Rizzo (fractured arm), Jon Berti (calf strain), Ian Hamilton (lat strain) and Cody Poteet (triceps) are all scheduled to continue their rehab assignments with Double-A Somerset Friday.

Rizzo has been out since suffering the arm injury in mid-June and the Yankees have been unable to get production at the position, with both DJ LeMahieu and Ben Rice slumping for much of the season.

Berti has been out since late May with his calf strain and with Jazz Chisholm Jr. having looked shaky defensively at third base of late, would provide depth at the spot.

It’s unclear how the Yankees’ roster — and lineup — will shake out once Rizzo and Berti are back, other than Rice likely being optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

LeMahieu has been awful at the plate all season and Berti was acquired in a trade from the Marlins — in exchange for catcher Ben Rortvedt, sent to Tampa Bay in the three-team deal shortly before Opening Day — in part to give the Yankees another option there.
