Ankita Lokhande, who is set to star as Yamunabai Savarkar in the upcoming film Swatantra Veer Savarkar, disclosed that Randeep Hooda, the director and lead actor of the project, initially hesitated to cast her in the role. She said that Randeep felt she was ‘too pretty’ for the character.
Speaking at a recent promotional event for the film, Ankita lauded Randeep for his thorough research into her character.She then recalled Randeep’s initial reservations, stating, “He told me, ‘I don’t think I want you in the film’. I was like, why? He was like, ‘You are too pretty for the character’. I was like, ‘Please don’t say that’.”
However, Ankita expressed appreciation for Randeep’s dedication to authenticity. “He (Randeep) had done so much research, he was so sure about what he wanted in the film, he knew everything about what she (Yamunabai Savarkar) was like,” she said.

Directed by Randeep, who also essays the role of Savarkar, the film promises to be more than just a biopic; it’s an epic and daring retelling of India’s armed revolution for independence. It is slated to release on March 22 in two languages – Hindi and Marathi.
