Veteran actor Anil Kapoor, who has been happily married to Sunita Kapoor for 40 years, recently opened up about their relationship during an event in Jaipur. He revealed that Sunita chose to be a stay-at-home mom out of her own volition, not because of any pressure from him. Interestingly, Anil shared that Sunita made it clear before their marriage that she wouldn’t bring any jewelry from her family and that he would have to buy everything for her.
Speaking at the FICCI FLO Jaipur Chapter, Anil reminisced about how Sunita used to decorate their home with flowers in the early years of their marriage. Initially, he didn’t notice her efforts, but over time, he began to appreciate the beautiful ambiance she created every time he returned from shooting. When he finally asked her about it, Sunita told him, “I am not doing it for you. I am doing it for myself. I look after myself not for you, I do it for myself. Don’t be mistaken that I am taking care of the house for you, I am doing it for myself.”
Anil also revealed that Sunita was a working woman when they met and had made it clear that she wouldn’t be accepting expensive gifts from her family for their wedding. She told him, “When I will come to your home after marriage, I will come with one set of clothes and I won’t bring any jewellery with me. Whatever it is, you will have to buy it for me.” The only piece of jewelry she ever gave him was his wedding ring.

In May, Anil and Sunita celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. To mark the special occasion, Anil shared unseen photos from their wedding along with a heartfelt message for Sunita, calling her his “rock.” He reflected on their 11 years together before marriage and the four decades they have spent as a married couple, expressing gratitude for the memories they’ve created together.
He wrote, “Our marriage has been a tapestry of adventures, challenges, and triumphs, all woven together with the threads of unwavering love and mutual respect. You’ve stood by me through thick and thin, and your strength, grace, and compassion have always inspired me to be a better man. Thank you for your endless support, your wisdom, and your boundless love.”
Anil and Sunita are also proud parents to actors Sonam Kapoor and Harshvardhan Kapoor, as well as producer Rhea Kapoor.
