The much-awaited show Call Me Bae premiered today, September 6, on Amazon Prime Video and has delivered much more than what was expected. The makers have made references to real-life people and incidents and have given a funny take on it.

Some of the hilarious references are there in the first 15 minutes of the first episode itself. Bella Rajwansh (Ananya Panday) is shown getting married to Agastya Chowdhary (Vihaan Samat). Both belong to wealthy families and hence their wedding is a lavish affair comprising 15 events! This might seem inspired by the recent wedding of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant but seems coincidental as the wedding of the year took place very recently, in July, while the show must have been shot before.
However, Bella and Agastya get hitched in Lake Como, Italy, just like Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone. In a cute moment, the much-loved video of Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani’s wedding ceremony has been recreated at this juncture in the show. The duo also folds hands and look lovingly at each other, just like Sidharth and Kiara.
This is followed by Bae’s voiceover that the drones, trying to capture the wedding, were exploded. This is a hilarious dig at reports that if any drones were spotted at the marriage venue of Katrina Kaif and Vicky Kaushal, they would be shot down.
A common factor in most celebrity weddings of recent times is the groom and bride laughing while looking at the priest. This led to netizens concluding, in jest, that the priests in these weddings must be cracking a funny joke. This aspect too made its way into the show.
5 years ago, a video showing the Ambani family wishing Shloka Ambani on her birthday became a talking point. It involved her husband Akash Ambani winking while suggesting that he wanted to start a family with Shloka. This moment has also been shown in the show and the way Agastya winks is sure to make viewers laugh.
And that’s not all. There are references to Lakshadweep, Maldives, Khan Market Gang, etc and all this is in the opening episode, setting the mood instantly. And such funny references and digs continue in the rest of the series as well.
