Amul 50 years: Amul jaisa koi nahi: PM Modi hails Amul’s contribution in India’s dairy sector; calls for making it world’s No. 1 dairy co

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday inaugurated five projects worth Rs 1,200 crore at the Golden Jubilee celebration of Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which runs the brand Amul. While highlighting the uniqueness of the brand- Anand Milk Union Limited (AMUL), the former Gujarat Chief Minister also congratulated Amul and noted its contribution to India’s dairy sector.

“After India’s independence, several brands came up in the country. Lekin Amul jaisa koi nahi – Amul has become the identity of livestock keepers. Amul means trust, Amul means development, Amul means public participation, Amul means farmer empowerment, Amul means inspiration for Aatmanirbhar Bharat, Amul means big dreams, big resolutions and bigger accomplishments,” Modi said in Ahmedabad.

He also commended Amul’s success and called it an ‘example’ for future generations.

“Amul is also an example of how the destiny of future generations is changed with the decisions taken with farsightedness. Today, this is an exemplary model of Government-Cooperative coordination. Due to such efforts, today we are the biggest milk producing country,” the BJP leader said.

PM Modi also highlighted the contribution of Gujarat in India’s dairy sector and in turn fuelling the country’s growth.

“Taking complete advantage of the double-engine government, Gujarat is leading in the cooperative production of milk. In the last 2 decades, the number of milk corporations in the state has doubled from 12 to 23. More than 36 lakh people are connected with the dairy industry, including 11 lakh women. Out of the 16,384 milk houses, 3300 are completely run by women. These women have become financial support for their families,” he said. Modi added, “The dairy industry has made a huge contribution to making the country the 5th largest economy. More than Rs 150 crore are paid via Direct Benefit Transfer to the milk producers. PM Modi’s tenure has been of Perform, Reform and Transform. India will soon generate an identity of the World’s Dairy in the Amrit Kaal.”The Indian PM also hailed the contribution of women in this sector and called them ‘the backbone’ of the sector’s development. Modi also reiterated the government’s commitment for women-led development in India.

“To make India a developed nation, it is important to make the financial situation of every woman in India stronger. That’s why our government is doing work to make women financially empowered. Under Mudra Yojana, help worth over Rs 30 lakh crore has been provided to around 70 percent of women,” he said.
