The Hema Committee Report that was released last month completely shook the Malayalam film industry. Several big male stars and directors were named as several women accused them of sexual misconduct. The report was released almost six years after it was filed. Since then, the discussion on women’s safety has been widely discussed across various film industries. Now Ananya Panday has also shared her thoughts on the same.
Ananya Panday, who is currently enjoying the love coming her way for Call Me Bae, recently spoke on the Hema Committee and the need to ensure women’s safety in every industry. As reported by India Today, the Student of the Year 2 actress said, “It’s very important for every industry to have a committee like the Hema Committee where women come together and start something like that. Clearly, no one else is doing it but women. And I feel there has definitely been some change. As you can see, people are at least talking about the problem. However, there is still a long, long way to go. There are still much bigger battles to fight.”
In the same conversation, Ananya Panday stated that in their contracts today, there is also a mention of several helpline numbers. The contracts also mention several clauses that ensure the security of women. She believes it is very important to have these and stated that even their call sheets have helpline numbers. “You can call and complain to them. Even if you want to complain anonymously. But I don’t think this issue exists only in the film industry. It’s important we address this as quickly as possible,” said Panday.
Meanwhile, the Hema Committee report was a 235-page report that has again started the #MeToo movement in the Malayalam film industry. A few days after the report was released, the entire Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) committee resigned, which also included Mohanlal, who was the president.
