A video has been doing rounds on the internet, where Jaya Bachchan introduces her future daughter-in-law on Amitabh Bachchan’s 60th birthday.
Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan has been married for 16 years now. But currently, there are speculations that the couple have separated from one another. Well, none of the actors have addressed the ongoing rumours. In between the ongoing family feud, an old video is been doing rounds on the internet, where Jaya Bachchan has publicly announced her future daughter-in-law on Amitabh Bachchan’s 60th birthday. Apparently, it wasn’t Aishwarya Rai, but this actress that Abhishek Bachchan was supposed to get married to.
In 2002, Jaya Bachchan introduced Karisma Kapoor as her bahu and welcomed her into the family during an event. Amid Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan divorce rumours, the video from the event has once again surfaced on social media. In the video, Jaya Bachchan can be heard saying, “I would, with the Bachchan and Nanda family, welcome another family into our group and that’s the Kapoors – Randhir and Babita Kapoor. And to be my daughter-in-law, Karisma Kapoor. That’s Abhishek’s gift to his parents on his father’s 60th birthday.”

The video is doing waves on the internet and has garnered several reactions from the netizens. One user wrote, “Maybe Bacchan’s fame was sinking at that point of time, so relationship didn’t go any further! Salute to Amitabh Bacchan ..the way he build his family wealth and status once again!!” Another user commented, “Karishma were actually very happy, look at her face” One user wrote, “I think they were actually in love,you should see both abishek and lolo after the engagement was called off, he became very quiet for a little while and it seemed like it was definitely external factors that didn’t allow them to be together.”
Meanwhile, both Abhishek Bachchan and Karisma Kapoor has moved on with their lives. While Abhishek went on to marry Aishwarya Rai in 2007, Karisma Kapoor, on the other hand, got married to businessman Sanjay Kapur in 2003. However, their marriage faced difficulties, and later they got divorced in 2016.
Till date, Abhishek and Karishma’s break-up is a mystery that remains unsolved. Some reports suggest that it was Babita Kapoor’s interference in Bachchan family’s personal matters that played a role, others claim that Jaya Bachchan asked Karishma to give up her acting career before marriage, which Karishma was unwilling to do. Although various explanations have surfaced, the exact reason for the couple calling off their engagement have never been fully clarified.
