Amazon Reportedly Developing Another Spinoff of The Boys Set in Mexico

Every streaming service has its flagship shows, and those services often try to expand those shows when possible. Amazon is furthering its expansion of The Boys as it reportedly has a show set in Mexico in development. If it gets made, the Eric Kripke-created series would be the third expansion after the animated anthology season of Diabolical and the college-centered spinoff Gen V, which wrapped its debut season and has been greenlit for season 2.

Details are sparse for what to expect. For now, Blue Beetle writer Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer is attached to write. Producers of the other spinoff and main series, including Kripke, Seth Rogan, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Neal H. Moritz, and Pavun Shetty, will be attached. It also looks like Diego Luna (Andor) and Gael Garcia Bernal (Werewolf by Night) will executive produce. It is unknown whether the two actors will star in the series or work purely as producing partners.

Amazon Expanding The Boys With a New Spinoff Set in Mexico

The report comes from Variety, which mentions that this will be a Spanish-speaking series. It will be a stark difference if it goes through completion compared to the United States-based main series and its spinoff.

The main series and its university-based spinoff have reached significant acclaim. Like any streaming service needing a powerhouse series, the popularity comes from its high quality, sharp satire on the superhero genre and the current political climate in the U.S., and for it being a breath of fresh air in a crowded space of the genre with the MCU and soon revamping of the DCU. If quality is maintained, The Boys having a spinoff in Mexico will further its place as a flagship IP for Amazon.

No date has been set for season 2 of Gen V. The Boys season 4 will be released on Prime Video in 2024, but no definitive date has been set.
