Following the release of Stree 2, reports suggested that Shraddha Kapoor’s and Rajkummar Rao’s publicists were involved in a battle to secure credit for the film’s success.
Stree 2 turned out to be one of the biggest hits of the year. Directed by Amar Kaushik, the film featured Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao in lead roles. Since the film’s release, several reports have surfaced online suggesting that the two lead actors were involved in a credit war. The film’s director, Amar Kaushik, has now disclosed that he confronted actor Aparshakti Khurana regarding a controversial remark he made about the PR war.
During a Zoom interview, Aparshakti was asked about the credit war. He replied, “If I comment on this, it will go far,” and further stated that it was all a ‘PR game’ when asked about Shraddha Kapoor receiving credit for the film. Amar has now opened up about the matter. The Stree 2 director, in the same Zoom interview, said, “We video-called each other when the controversy around the credits surfaced online. We simply laughed about it.”
He added, “I even called Aparshakti after his statement. I asked him, ‘What was that?’ He said, ‘Paaji, I didn’t mean anything by it. You know how I talk.’ He then said, ‘I always laugh when I say such things, but this time, I just forgot to laugh, and it became serious.’ I then asked, ‘But what did you mean? What were you trying to say?’ He responded, ‘I was just talking, and the way she was asking questions, I just didn’t laugh.’ Aparshakti is very good at heart. When something bothers him, he simply blurts it out. He doesn’t bottle things up. He was like, ‘I’m just caught in the fan war.’”
Amar shared that the entire film’s cast is ‘extremely close.’ He explained that when issues arise, they address them directly with each other rather than keeping them internal. Amar also referred to the incident as a ‘fan-created controversy,’ noting that it ultimately benefited the film’s success, as the dispute attracted more viewers.
Stree 2 is the sequel to Stree, which was released in 2018. Both films managed to captivate audiences. While Stree follows the narrative of a woman who was wronged in her mortal life, the sequel introduces a headless villain called Sarkata, who targets women with independent thought processes.
