Achieving the perfect runny yolk and a soft white can be difficult when cooking eggs.
There are a plethora of hacks out there for cooking the “perfect” egg with most people having their own method for poaching, frying and scrambling their eggs.
One “alternative” hack that has recently gone viral on social media is the “eggvelope” method.
The cooking method comprises of an egg white folded over a separated egg yolk which creates an envelope.
A video of the egg cooking technique was shared on Twitter by the account @HowThingsWork_ and garnered more than 14 million views.
The post was initially shared by SunnyCusine on TikTok but has since made the rounds on social media platforms.
To try this technique, you’ll need just two pieces of equipment, a non-stick pan and a slotted spoon.
The slotted spoon is used to separate the yolk from the white but this can also be done by hand.
How to make ‘eggvelope’ eggs
Method:
1. Make sure your pan is hot before adding a small splash of oil.
2. Next, pour the egg white into the pan and swirl it around until a thin layer of egg white has formed.
3. Allow the egg white to cook a little before placing the egg yolk in the centre.
4. Carefully fold the egg white over the yolk by either using your fingers or chopsticks. The white needs to be folded vertically and then horizontally to make an envelope.
5. Flip the pocket over so the egg white envelope can cook on both sides.
6. Transfer the eggvelope to a plate and enjoy either by itself, with a slice of toast or with some cheese.
The popular video on X, formerly Twitter, which was captioned an “alternative way to cook eggs”, has received lots of comments online.
