Despite a star-studded cast, this Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan-starrer failed to make an impact at the box office.
Abhishek Bachchan made his Bollywood debut with the film Refugee in 2000. Two of his films Tera Jadoo Chal Gayaa and Dhaai Akshar Prem Ke also released in the same year. All of them turned out to commercially flop and received mix reviews from audience and critics. Dhaai Akshar Prem Ke was Abhishek Bachchan’s first ever collaboration with Aishwarya Rai. The film starred a stellar cast of actors like Amrish Puri, Anupam Kher, Shakti Kapoor, and Sushma Seth. Moreover, director Raj Kanwar had roped in Salman Khan to play a cameo. Despite everything, the romantic-drama failed to be a hit at the box office.
Produced on a budget of Rs 9 crore, Dhaai Akshar Prem Ke could only rake in Rs 16.30 crore at the box office. It is a remake of the 1995 Hollywood film A Walk in The Clouds, which itself is a remake of the Italian film Quattro Passi Fra Le Nuvole (Four Steps in the Clouds).
Director Raj Kanwar faced a significant commercially setback with Dhaai Akshar Prem Ke. However, its songs became superhit and remain popular among audience to this day. One of the most melodious track of this film is Ek Haseen Ladki sung by Anuradha Paudwal and Babul Supriyo. Lyrics written by Sameer, the music was composed by the hit duo Jatin and Lalit.
Meanwhile, Abhishek Bachchan is currently receiving rave views for his performance in Shoojit Sircar’s ‘I Want to Talk.’ After Piku, Shoojit Sircar delivered another touching story of a father-daughter relationship. Despite positive reviews, the film failed to make an impact at the box office. Apart from Abhishek Bachchan, I Want to Talk marks the debut of actress Ahilya Bamroo and also stars Johnny Lever, Jayant Kriplani.
