Airline with the least legroom is named – and it’s not easyJet or Ryanair | Travel News | Travel

With travel at its peak over a busy summer, families have been jetting off to various corners of the globe on holidays.

Airports and holiday firms are witnessing a booking bonanza, but let’s face it, comfort on those long-haul flights can be elusive.

Cramped legroom and snug seats can sour your high-flying experience. It’s a well-known fact that seat size and leg space vary across airlines.

For those who don’t fancy shelling out more money for “extra legroom” seats, you might be curious about what you’re getting with a standard ticket.

Fear not, as Which? has conducted a 2023 survey comparing legroom and seat width among 12 leading short-haul carriers from the UK, reports the Liverpool Echo.

The study focused on “seat pitch” – the gap between your seat and the one ahead – to gauge legroom.

Aer Lingus, Lufthansa, and KLM soared above the rest, offering a generous seat pitch of 31-32 inches, 29-33 inches, and 30-32 inches respectively.

On the flip side, Wizz Air and TUI trailed behind, both providing a rather snug seat pitch of just 28 inches.

When it comes to seat width – the actual gap between the two arm rests that border your seat – most airlines’ are of a similar size, approximately 17 inches.

But easyJet, TAP Portugal, and Lufthansa provide slightly more space, at 18 inches.

Here are the complete results for the seat pitches, as documented by Which?

  • Aer Lingus – 31-32 inches
  • British Airways – 29-31 inches
  • EasyJet – 29 inches
  • Jet2 – 28-31 inches
  • KLM – 29-33 inches
  • Lufthansa – 30-32 inches
  • Norwegian – 29-31 inches
  • Ryanair – 30 inches
  • TAP Portugal – 28-31 inches
  • TUI – 28 inches
  • Vueling – 29-30 inches
  • Wizz Air – 28 inches
