A commercial aircraft experienced a “near miss” with an unexplained aerial object near New York, as detailed in the Pentagon’s latest UFO report, which documented numerous new sightings.
The occurrence near the Empire State was amongst 757 unexplained aerial phenomena, commonly called unidentified flying objects or UFOs instances, reported to US authorities in the previous year, as per the newly issued document.
The flight crew alerted the Federal Aviation Administration regarding their aircraft’s “near miss with a ‘cylindrical object'” whilst traversing the Atlantic Ocean near New York’s shoreline.
The specific date and airline information remain undisclosed. The Pentagon’s All-Domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) is still examining this event, according to their formal report, referenced by the New York Post.
The New York incident stands alone as the only documented case involving a “possible flight safety issue” during the encounter.
Meanwhile, investigators have successfully explained approximately 300 of the total reported incidents. Many unidentified objects were subsequently classified as balloons, birds, aircraft, drones or satellites.
Numerous other sightings remain unexplained, primarily due to insufficient information for definitive conclusions.
Witnesses frequently described seeing unidentified lights or objects that appeared round, spherical or orb-shaped.
One witness account described observing a jellyfish displaying flashing lights.
The report noted that Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite constellation frequently causes confusion, with people misidentifying the satellite chains as UFOs. AARO officials confirmed finding no evidence suggesting otherworldly origins in their investigations.
“It is important to underscore that, to date, AARO has discovered no evidence of extraterrestrial beings, activity, or technology,” stated the report.
The documented 757 cases occurred between May 1, 2023, and June 1, 2024. This figure includes 272 previously unreported incidents that occurred before this period, as noted in the report.
