Air fryer sausage casserole recipe takes just three minutes to prep and tastes ‘delicious’

Air fryers are incredible kitchen gadgets that can be used to whip up a range of foods like jacket potatoes, a fried egg and even entire meals like a chicken curry or a roast dinner.

For tonight’s meal idea, a sausage casserole is a great option, however, it can take quite a long time when looking into the oven. Luckily, air fryers speed up the cooking process.

This saucy tomato and paprika-based casserole with sausage, peppers and onions recipe comes from Helen, the woman behind the food blog Hint of Helen.

Helen claimed that this is one of her “favourite mid-week meals” that she likes to pair with roast potatoes or chips.

Taking just three minutes to prep, this “delicious sausage and tomato casserole” cooks in 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Four to six sausages (or, however many you’d usually cook for two people)

One onion

One teaspoon paprika

Two bell peppers

Two potatoes (optional – just if you’re serving chips with it)

For the sauce

400g tin of chopped tomatoes

Two garlic cloves

One teaspoon thyme

One tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce

One teaspoon sugar

Half a teaspoon salt

50ml chicken stock (boiling water and 1/4 stock cube)

Method

Begin by cutting the pepper and onion into chunky bite-sized pieces, then peel and crush the garlic cloves.

Add the chopped onions, peppers and sausages into the air fryer, sprinkle with the paprika and a drizzle of oil and cook for eight minutes on air fry mode – or until your sausages are browned a little.

Whilst this is cooking, make up the chicken stock using boiling water and a chicken stock cube.

For those who have a dual air fryer, transfer the sausage and veg into the other basket – this basket should be completely empty and your food on the base of the basket – before adding in the sauce ingredients.

Add the sliced potatoes into the basket you’ve just transferred the sausages out of and shake to coat in any residual oil (add a little more oil if needed) – cook for 20 minutes on air fry or until cooked to your liking.

For those who only have a single air fryer drawer, leave the sausage and veg in the basket, add the rest of the ingredients (the sauce ingredients) and stir to combine.

The potatoes can then be added to the air fryer after the casserole is ready.

Once the sauce ingredients have been added, set the air fryer to bake mode for 15 minutes. Then, serve and enjoy.
