When it comes to going on holiday sometimes all you need is some peace and quiet. But how about an island destination where all you can see is stunning blue waters, golden sand and beautiful scenery?
Well, if you’re stuck for ideas then you might want to make note as new research has revealed the best island destinations to visit in 2024.
This is according to Bounce, who looked at factors such as things to do, the number of beaches, hotel prices and average temperatures.
Phuket, Thailand came top scoring an impressive ten out of ten. While the city itself has plenty of culture and history it was the destination slightly closer to home that caught our eye.
Scoring 9.66 out of 10, Zanzibar, Tanzania came second on the list. The destination, which is located along the coast of east Africa saw the average price of a pint coming in at just £1.55.

Other factors which did well for Zanzibar included good weather, highly-rated attractions and affordable accommodation.
Even better, the time zone is only two hours ahead of the UK so say goodbye to the jet lag.
Things to do in Zanzibar?
Unguja, which is the mainland, is known for its stunning beaches and coral reefers. There are plenty of beaches to choose from too including Pongwe, Nungwi and Kendwa.
If you’re more into wildlife then you’ll spot the Zanzibar red colobus monkey. Let’s not forget the National Park where you can see animals such as birds, bush babies and butterflies.
In terms of history, you can visit Stone Town which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The area is also the birthplace of Queen frontman Freddie Mercury.

What is the best way to get to Zanzibar?
On average it takes around 13 hours to travel from the UK to Zanzibar with a stopover.
Despite, there being no direct routes you will have to catch a connecting flight. Usually, this takes place in Istanbul, Dubai, Nairobi or Doha depending on your airline.
Fares can range depending on the time of year with a minimum return costing £491 from September to May in the UK capital.
Meanwhile, during the peak months of July and August, the fare can almost double to £800 for a return flight.
When is the best time to visit Zanzibar?
Zanzibar is a location which tends to be warm all year round with temperatures being a minimum of 25°C no matter when you visit. February seems to be the warmest at 28°C.
Despite this, you might want to avoid April and May as this is their tropical monsoon climate where it will be more likely to rain.
