Aberdeen face injury sweat as Jimmy Thelin’s first choice needs ‘a real check’ 48 hours before Celtic clash

JIMMY THELIN has revealed Dimitir Mitov is an injury concern ahead of Wednesday’s clash with Celtic.

The Aberdeen keeper came off at half-time of his side’s 1-1 draw with Hearts with a suspected hamstring injury with Ross Doohan taking his place.

And Thelin expects to know more about the injury today ahead of the clash with the champions.

He said: “Let’s see tomorrow, we need to make a real check on him first.

“I want them (the medical staff) to say exactly what it was first before I say something.

“But he couldn’t keep playing so we needed to change him.

“But the good thing was Ross came in and did really well and he looked really prepared, so we have a good squad.

“Jimmy McGarry did well, Angus MacDonald did well, a lot of players who don’t play so much also gave a good impression on the pitch.

“And that’s what we need when the games are so intense, we need to keep everybody healthy and fresh inside the games.”

Aberdeen led through Leighton Clarkson but were pegged back by Nicky Devlin’s own goal.

And Thelin admitted he had no complaints with the result.

He said: “I think it’s a fair result when the game is over.

Wolves fan goes to extreme measures to distract Justin Kluivert taking a penalty in loss to Bournemouth

“We had some parts when we were 1-0 ahead where we could do better, but also they did well.

“The way the game went on, there were times we lost the rhythm and dynamic in our team and gave away the ball in some situations.

“When a game is that intense and we’re not really there then we can make these small mistakes and that can give Hearts momentum, but also vice versa,

“Hearts did the same in some areas and we got the ball. It was quite a busy game in some situations!”

Hearts boss Neil Critchley also has injury worries with Stephen Kingsley and Frankie Kent both coming off.

The point means his side remain bottom of the table but he is confident they won’t stay there.

He said: “I thought we were fantastic, particularly in the second half. I thought we started the game well, I thought we were a better team.

“Obviously making two changes early in the game that we had to make disrupts the flow and rhythm of the game.

“They scored with their first attempt at goal, so it would be easy for us to feel sorry for ourselves in the case of, here we go again.

“But I said to the players at that time, we have two choices. One, moan and sulk about it, or we fight

“We certainly fought in the second half and the point is the least we deserved from that game.

Critchley also claimed it was an EASY decision to play skipper Lawrence Shankland despite the abuse he received from fans in the wake of their Euro loss to Circle Bruges.

He said: “I spoke to him yesterday, gave him 24 hours to clear his head.

“He’s a strong-willed boy. Obviously, it’s going to affect anyone, particularly the run he’s on. He lives for goals, he’s a goal-scorer.

“Again, he could feel sorry for himself in this situation. It’s a real test for him. But he’ll come through it and he’ll get our support.

“That’s what you do when you care about the people around you. We talk about the Hearts family. You look after your family when they need you.”
