Indians love the Oscars and hence, we see thousands of people catching up on the award ceremony early in the morning. We are a nation that loves cinema. However, very few of our movies have managed to bring home an Academy Award. Aamir Khan’s Lagaan was the last film that was nominated in the Best International Feature category. Shah Rukh Khan shared his thoughts on why Indian movies struggle at the Oscars.
Aamir Khan disagrees with Shah Rukh Khan
In an interview, Shah Rukh Khan said that Lagaan was a mix of art and commercial film and was wonderfully made. The superstar stated that we have to change the format of Indian films. “If I’m invited to your party, I need to dress up in the code you tell me to. I cannot be wearing my code of two and a half hours and five songs. We have to change that,” SRK said about the Oscars.
Recently, in an interaction with BBC Asian Network, Aamir Khan was asked if he agrees with SRK. The superstar said that he doesn’t agree as Lagaan was a three-hour and 42-minute film and had six songs and still got nominated as the members loved the film. It proves that movies with songs, no matter how long they are, are not an issue for the Academy members. The actor believes it depends on how the work is and how a movie is able to touch hearts as Academy members are also human beings.
Further in this entertainment news, Aamir said that getting the Oscar nomination in the international feature film is the toughest category. “But in the Best International Feature category, you’re actually competing with the best film from each country. Now, let’s look at India. We make 1000 films a year. To be selected from India, you have to first beat 1000 films. People forget that. And then you’re in an arena where there are 80 other films. And to be nominated among 80 films is itself tough,” said the Laal Singh Chaddha actor.

Aamir stated that the reason Indian films don’t have nominations every year is because there are also movies from Iran, France, and Germany.
