A Quiet Place: Day One scores $53 million debut at US; Kalki 2898 AD takes over 5th spot with $5.4 million collection |

‘A Quiet Place: Day One’ is making noise at the box office with an estimated $53 million debut in its first weekend in North American theatres, according to studio estimates on Sunday. This prequel, starring Lupita Nyong’o and Joseph Quinn and released by Paramount, outperformed expectations that had pegged its opening at $40 million.
Despite this strong performance, ‘A Quiet Place: Day One’ couldn’t surpass Disney and Pixar’s ‘Inside Out 2‘, which added an estimated $57.4 million in its third weekend, crossing the $1 billion mark globally.
Directed by Michael Sarnoski and rated PG-13, ‘A Quiet Place: Day One’ also earned $45.5 million from international markets, bringing its total to $98.5 million. Impressively, it opened higher than both its predecessors, ‘A Quiet Place’ ($50.2 million in April 2018) and ‘A Quiet Place: Part II’ ($47.5 million in May 2021), written and directed by John Krasinski.Meanwhile, ‘Horizon: An American Saga—Chapter 1’, directed by and starring Kevin Costner, debuted at $11 million, placing third. Despite its sluggish start and mixed reviews, Costner has ambitious plans for the series, with the second chapter expected in August.
The top five list also saw ‘Bad Boys: Ride or Die’ in fourth place, earning $10.3 million in its fourth week. Sony’s latest instalment of the Will Smith action-comedy series marks a significant step in Smith’s career recovery.

In fifth place, Nag Ashwin’s ‘Kalki 2898 AD‘, a Telugu-language science fiction film, earned an estimated $5.4 million. Featuring an ensemble cast including Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan, the film is part of a planned larger cinematic universe by India’s Prathyangira Cinemas.
Trade experts noted the diversity of genres in the top ten, with the Punjabi language film ‘Jatt & Juliet 3’ in ninth place, earning $1.5 million.
