A dog took a dump in the 49ers’ end zone at halftime Monday

The 49ers’ Christmas game was a disaster on all fronts — and that even includes the halftime corgi races.

Perhaps the only highlight from the Niners’ 33-19 loss to the Ravens on Monday night came at halftime, when the “K9ers Corgi Cup” saw 12 corgis dressed in holiday sweaters race each other. But even that was marred by dogs doing what dogs do, according to Bay Area News Group’s 49ers beat reporter, Cam Inman.

“A corgi just did a doodoo in the 49ers’ end zone at halftime,” Inman reported on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The races took place at the north end zone, with the proverbial lump of coal cleaned up before the second half began. Niners fans could argue that the end zone excrement from the corgi wasn’t as bad as the crap that came from the football team; the 49ers allowed two Ravens touchdowns in an 18-second span in the first four minutes of the third quarter on that same side of the field.

Still, the races delighted fans at Levi’s Stadium and at home, with highlights from the races played on ESPN’s coverage. One particular clip, showing two corgis crashing into each other midrace, led to several memes, with the NFL’s account asking if the hit was illegal contact.

By the slimmest of margins, a pupper named Tony was the winner of the K9ers Corgi Cup. A different corgi jumped out to a quick lead from the outside “lane” and looked to have the race locked up, but instead of racing through the finish line, that corgi turned in toward the middle of the field. The turn earned groans from the crowd, and allowed Tony to make a mad dash for the slim win.

After the turd-tastic showing against Lamar Jackson and Baltimore, the 49ers and their fans who are hoping to wash away any stench might be out of luck. Up next, the Niners will travel to face the Washington Commanders at the broken-down FedEx Field, which notoriously once had fans thinking raw sewage was being dumped on them.
