The intriguing documentary Yo Yo Honey Singh: Famous was released today on Netflix and throws light on one of the most famous musicians of our time. Yo Yo Honey Singh reached dizzying heights with his songs and his collaborations with various Bollywood stars. However, he soon slipped into oblivion only to resurface many years later. Yo Yo Honey Singh clarifies on rumours of Shah Rukh Khan slapping him in Netflix documentary: “That man loves me so much”; opens up on the CHILLING Chicago breakdown episode: “I SMASHED coffee mug on my head”
One of the chilling sequences of the documentary is when Yo Yo Honey Singh had a mental breakdown in Chicago. This was a time when his TV Show ‘India’s Raw Star’ was going on and he was also performing for the ‘Temptation Tour’.
Yo Yo Honey Singh said in the documentary, “It (‘India’s Raw Star’) was a stressful project. At the same time, I was also doing shows and releasing albums. Everything was quite new for me. I just didn’t feel like saying No to anything. I forgot that I’m not Superman.”
He continued, ‘India’s Raw Star’ was about to be launched. This is when Shah Rukh told me ‘Tu hamare saath Slam Tour pe chal raha hai’. I replied, ‘Theek hai. Chalo, chalte hai’. We took the flight to America the next day. In those 10 days, we went to America four times in 10 days, back and forth!”
Shah Rukh Khan and Yo Yo Honey Singh developed a great bond after they collaborated on the super-hit song ‘Lungi Dance’ from Chennai Express (2013). ‘Slam The Tour’ was held to promote SRK’s Diwali 2014 release, Happy New Year. Though Honey Singh didn’t sing any song in Happy New Year, he was asked to join the musical tour.
Yo Yo Honey Singh’s sister Sneha Singh and mother Bhupinder Kaur then narrated the chilling Chicago episode. This was hours before Yo Yo Honey Singh was all set to perform. He realized that he was not feeling well and he told his sister on Skype “Gudiya mujhe bacha le”.
Then, the management team came to his room and asked why he was not ready. When they insisted that he should be ready, Yo Yo Honey Singh told them that he couldn’t come. The team didn’t budge and hence Yo Yo Honey Singh shaved his head. They were still okay with it and offered to give him a cap! With no other choice, Yo Yo Honey Singh did the unthinkable. He said, “I picked up a coffee mug and smashed it on my head.”
Yo Yo Honey Singh was hospitalized and was given stitches. Meanwhile, rumours were spread that Shah Rukh Khan was upset with Honey Singh’s behaviour and that the former slapped the latter. On this, Yo Yo Honey Singh clarified in the documentary, “That man loves me so much. He’d never do that.”
